CCOWE Young Pro Aboard M/V Doulos!

The M/V Doulos was once again in Manila, Philippines after 5 years. She sailed to the South Harbor last January 04 and stayed until January 23, 2007! She is the world’s oldest, (active) ocean-faring passenger ship. The M/V Doulos was built in 1914, just two years later than the Titanic! It is a floating bookshop owned and operated by a German charity, GBA (Good Books for All).
CCOWE Young Pro had an evangelistic cum revival night on board the ship last January 14, 2007. About 120 people attended including previous CCOWE campers from Palawan and Laguna. The M/V Doulos staff presented a lively video about the ship’s various ministries and the crews’ life on board the ship. The staff also prepared a pantomime about sin entering the world and our reconciliation with God through Jesus Christ; then they rendered song numbers for all of us. Eleven people stood up during the altar call that night, to accept Jesus Christ as their Savior and to commit their lives to the Lord. Their message reminded me not to be like the person in the Parable of the Rich Fool, who accumulated wealth but died before he could even begin using what was stored in his big barns. No one can predict the future with absolute certainty. It struck me that the poorest man is actually the one with the most wealth yet doesn’t have God in his life. And as a true believer, we should give out of thanksgiving and consider ourselves blessed to be a part in extending God’s kingdom.
There are many Filipino-Chinese volunteers who at one time served aboard the M/V Doulos, including Esther Gaw, Estrella Lu, Jo Li and Pastor Phoebie Yu. At present, Amor Sabella of Davao, and Daniel Wong and his wife, Stephanie (from Cebu), together with their two kids, are serving on board.
The M/V Doulos offers both short- and long-term mission opportunities ranging from two weeks to ten weeks. (See details below for inquiries.) It also offers one- to two-year hands-on training programs focusing on the untouched groups (of people) in the Middle East, North Africa, and South, Central, and East Asia. The M/V Doulos hopes to bring knowledge, help, and hope to the peoples of the world. She is remarkable not only for her great age and endurance, but also for the joy and relief she brings to the multitudes as she sails around the world. To God Be the Glory!
